Since 1969, Carroll’s has operated on a simple philosophy: do right by the customer. And while many things have changed since the business started 50 years ago, the team-focussed staff at Carroll’s have never lost sight of that goal.
Carroll’s is the very definition of a mom and pop operation. Managing Director Chris Carroll’s parents, Tony and Vera Carroll, founded the business together with only a truck and pin board.
‘Dad would come home with literally pockets full of dockets…. And my mum would take over. All the dockets used to get pinned up on the back of the couch and then the couch would get pushed back against the wall, that’s how the admin department worked”, he says.
Having grown up around logistics, Chris Carroll not only has a wealth of experience in the industry, but he still pours his heart and soul into his work on a daily basis. “I am really inspired and get great satisfaction in assisting in finding solutions for people that have problems with their supply chain. It sounds a bit cheesy but it’s actually true. It’s not just me, the whole team is committed and we are very proud of what we do.
I’m very sentimental towards the business. I remember when I was ten years old and my dad took me along to an auction and we bought this forklift. We’ve still got that forklift today, so it’s been thirty years.”
Chris, the forklift and many team members are not the only things that have been around the business for decades. Carroll’s has customer accounts dating back to the early 1970’s, which is a testament to the level of service and price competiveness they offer.
Throughout the years Carroll’s has consistently invested in systems that support their ability to produce the best service, the most efficient way without cutting corners. “The advancements in IT (Information Technology) and access to it has enabled the little guy in our industry to compete and provide a better service than the big guy, that has been a big driver for us.” The focus on efficiency and innovation has touched every element of the business and is highly visible in Carroll’s state of the art North Shore facility.
